Gladiator slot

This movie-themed 25-payline video slot was inspired by the blockbuster movie Gladiator starring Russel Crowe. Gladiator slot was released in 2008 by Playtech, and even 8 years later it still has a lot to offer in terms of gameplay, graphics and sound effects. While the image of characters such as Maximus, Lucilla, Gracchus, Marcus Aurelius, Commodus and Juba are featured in this game, the image of the character played by Russel Crowe is missing, presumably due to copyright issues.

If you are a fan of the movie and you enjoy video slots, then you’ll probably enjoy Gladiator slot as well.

How to play

Gladiator can be played in casinos operating on the Playtech software platform. The game is available both for mobile and in-browser play, and can be played in demo mode or for real money.

The 5-reel, 25-payline video slot has a large range of betting options. Coin sizes can be as low as $0.01 or as high as $5. The minimum bet is one coin per pay-line and a maximum number of 250 coins can be bet per spin. Therefore, the game can be appealing to high rollers as well.

By selecting the auto start feature and setting the amount to be wagered, the number of activated pay-lines, and the number of spins, the game will play automatically without the player’s intervention.

Bonus Features

Apart from the symbols inspired by the movie characters, the game also features the traditional Queen, King, Ace, Jack, Ten and Nine symbols. Further symbols that appear are the wild symbol and the scatter symbol.

The gladiator helmet represents the wild symbol in his game, and it only appears on the second, third and fourth reel. The wild symbol substitutes other symbols necessary to complete a winning combination. When the gladiator helmet appears simultaneously on these three reels, the Gladiator Bonus Round will be initiated. The 9 masks appearing are either silver, bronze and gold. The gold masks lands players the largest wins.

The colosseum is the scatter symbol; hence it can appear scattered on any reel in any position. If 2 or more scatter symbols appear they act as a multiplier, multiplying the triggering line bet. 3 or more scatter symbols will trigger the Colosseum Bonus. In this round a 4×5 stone matrix will appear. Each row represents a certain benefit and the player has to choose one stone from each row. The first row represents the number of free spins that are granted, the second row represents the multiplier, the third row will reveal the multiplier that can be used in the free spins, while the forth row will reveal the extra wild symbol to be used in the free spins.

The win or lose gamble option specific for many slots can be found in this video slot as well. The gamble option can be used in the event of a winning combination, and allows the player to double or quadruple his winnings. To do so, the player has to guess the right colour and symbol.

Jackpot: Gladiator doesn’t feature a high jackpot (limited to 5000 coins), however, the amounts winnable through the bonus features make up for this drawback.

Bottom line: Gladiator is still as relevant today as it was in 2008, which only goes to show Playtech’s excellence in creating games that are able to withstand the test of time.
